This is a coffee from the Gondo factory in Muranga, the neighboring county of Nyeri, so the
coffees tend to have similar cup profiles – intense, complex, and flavor-dense. It is made up of mainly smallholder farms, that are organized in Cooperative Societies that act as umbrella organizations for the Factories (wet mills), where the smallholders deliver their coffee cherries for processing. Gondo is named after one of the three factories managed by the New Kiriti Farmers’ Cooperative Society – together with Kayu and Kirimahiga. This factory sits at 1900 masl. There is a lot of competition in the area, and many of the farmers are surrounded by several wet mills. They are free to choose where they want to deliver their cherries as members. Due to the traditional auction system in Kenya, quality is rewarded with higher prices. The better factories will then attract more farmers by producing coffee getting the highest prices, as well as giving a high payback rate to the farmers.
